Wires: Introduction

The Ethernet cable, which is used to connect your PC to a router, consists of 8 colour-coded wires. Each wire in the cable is protected by an insulating plastic.

Before wireless headphones were invented, wires were used to connect your radio to your headphone. But up to now, wired headphones are still popular. Wires are still necessary in connecting our gadgets.

What are these wires made of?

The most commonly used element to manufacture wires is copper because it is abundant and cheap. Silver is a better conductor than copper and is very expensive. Plastic is used to insulate your wires so that you won't be electrocuted. However, if you accidentally touched the copper wire of your earphone, the electric current is too low to harm you.

Stranded Wire. Gauge refers to the size of the wire's diameter.
The smaller the gauge, the larger the wire's diameter.
For example, a 12 Gauge wire is thicker than a 20 Gauge wire.

Remember: The larger the wire's diameter, the lesser the resistance to the flow of electrons. This means it will allow more current to pass through.

Solid wires are single-strandein telephone and internet cables like the Ethernet cable. Solid wires can be easily broken when moved a lot of times. They are not ideal in carrying high
voltages because they may overheat. is

Stranded wires are used in connecting your electronic appliance to the electrical outlet. You can think of hair strands whenever you see this kind of wire.Stranded wires are ideal for high voltages.
